Area Rugs - General Maintenance Guidelines

Prevention is always best

Put doormats in front of the front door to collect the dirt. In this way, you will ensure that dirt from outside does not reach your indoor carpet. Also, remember that dark carpets show dirt and stains less than light carpets.

Low-level maintenance

We recommend that you regularly clean your fitted carpet from the first day you have it. In this way, you will ensure that dust does not get trapped and fibers become damaged. It is best to use a vacuum cleaner with rotating brushes. These vacuum cleaners are certainly more expensive, but they are much better at removing dust and dirt. Superficial dirt and stains can best be removed with a carpet cleaner. Read the instructions properly and always deal with stains as quickly as possible.

High-level maintenance

When a carpet becomes soiled after years of use, it is best to have it cleaned by a professional. There are a whole host of deep cleaning methods available to guarantee your carpet an attractive appearance and a long life. Professional steam cleaning involves spraying a solution of warm water and a cleaning product so as to loosen the dirt. The dirt is then extracted by the vacuum method. This process is ideal for heavy soiling as it ensures dirt deep in the carpet is removed.

First aid for stains

Act quickly

Immediately wipe off the stain with a clean cloth or kitchen roll. First, remove any solid pieces with a spoon. Decide what has caused the stain and choose the appropriate cleaning agent from the table.

Be thorough

Use a clean cloth on the stain. A carpet cleaner can be used for most stains. If you do not have one at home, dip the cloth into a substance which is recommended in the table. Use enough of this substance, but not too much. Ensure that the cleaning product and dirt are completely rinsed out of the carpet. You should only walk on the carpet again when the spot which has been cleaned is completely dry.

A. Water

Wipe off as much of the stain as possible with a clean, white doth or kitchen roll. Then work at the stain with a damp cloth and rub until no more dirt appears on the cloth or kitchen roll.
The backing should not be wet at all time.

B. Lye

(1 tablespoon of soap powder in a quarter of a litre of water)

Wipe off as much of the stain as possible with a clean, whit cloth or kitchen roll. Then work at the stain with a cloth which has been soaked in the soapy water. Afterward, rub until no more dirt appears on the cloth or paper. Important: continue to rinse with clean water and remove remaining soap powder with a clean cloth or kitchen roll.

C. Diluent

Wipe off the stain with a cloth which has been soaked in diluent until no more dirt appears on the cloth.

Important: Never pour a cleaning agent on to the stain!

D. Stain Remover

Wipe off the stain with a cloth which has been soaked in benzine until no more dirt appears on the cloth.

Important: Never pour a cleaning agent on to the stain!

E. Acetone

Wipe off the stain with a cloth which has been soaked in acetone until no more dirt appears on the cloth.

Important: Never pour a cleaning agent on to the stain!

Subsequent treatment

If some dirt still remains on the carpet after it has been cleaned, you can set to work on it with a chlorine solution (mix 50% water with 50% bleach). After the remaining dirt has been bleached off, you must rinse the chlorine solution with clean water and remove. When the spot in question is completely dry, the fitted carpet should be vacuumed!
